Hermantown Football

Rocco Ericksen and Josh Muelbauer combined to rush for 137 yards and a touchdown, and quarterback Alex Schott connected on eight of 18 passing attempts for 93 yards and a touchdown as Hermantown fell to Duluth East 28-14 in a Northeast Red high school football game Friday night at Corey Veech Field at Centricity Stadium.

The Hawks led 14-6 at the half.

Ryder Wrazidlo, Zach Thorsten, Brody Summer and Conner Fure all had six solo tackles for Hermantown.

Hawks wide receiver Peyton Menzel had two receptions for 43 yards.

“The one thing we needed to do was limit (Austan) Orvedahl and his impact on the game and we didn't do it,” said Hermantown coach Mike Zagelmeyer. “I loved the way we came out of the gates. I thought we were prepared and executed, but Duluth East seemed to wear us down, especially in the second half when I thought our tackling was terrible.  Don't get me wrong, a player that is a next level player has the tendency to make defenses look foolish, but I didn't think we rallied to the football very well in the second half.

“The touchdown right before half that Duluth East scored obviously seemed to change momentum a little bit, but it was a classic Duluth East/Hermantown football game. Just wish the end result was different.”

The Hawks (1-2) will host Denfeld (1-2) Friday at 7 p.m.
