Varsity Boys Basketball – at St. Francis, 5:45 p.m. Game Notes: The Hawks (3-16) are hoping to rebound from a 70-58 loss at Grand Rapids on Thursday. St. Francis is 5-14.
Varsity Boys Hockey – host Grand Rapids, 7 p.m. Game Notes: Hermantown (13-8-3) looks to snap a rare three-game losing streak against their Lake Superior Conference rival Thunderhawks (15-8-1). Class 2A Grand Rapids has lost two of its last three, including a 4-2 home loss to nonconference Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks lost to the Red Knights 3-2 on Friday night at historic Hermantown Arena. Hermantown is led by ultra-elite senior defenseman Henry Peterson (4-18—22), a St. Thomas commit, and senior power forward and team scoring leader River Freeman (22-12—34). Bryce Francisco (12-6-3, 1.63 GAA, .945 SVS%) is Minnesota’s top junior goaltender, and a quickly rising Division I prospect.
Varsity Girls Basketball – host Hibbing, 7:15 p.m. Game Notes: The Hawks (13-7) lost to visiting Duluth Marshall 81-43 on Friday night. The Bluejackets are 2-19 and have lost three straight and 12 of their last 13. Hermantown is led by junior guard Bailey Hermanson and senior power forward Olivia Johnson.
Wednesday
Proctor-Hermantown Varsity Girls Hockey – vs. Rock Ridge, 7 p.m. Section 7AA championship in Cloquet. Game Notes: The Mirage (19-6-1) defeated Moose Lake 10-1 in a Section 7AA semifinal Saturday afternoon in Cloquet. The Wolverines (12-11-4) edged North Shore 7-6 in Cloquet to advance to face the Mirage. Proctor-Hermantown defeated Rock Ridge 7-0 on Nov. 26 in Virginia, Minn. The Mirage are led by freshman defenseman Taylee Manion and senior goaltender Neelah McLeod.
