Hermantown Girls Basketball

Hermantown will conclude a four-game high school girls basketball homestand against Chisago Lakes on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

The Hawks are 2-1 in the homestand, with victories against North Branch 65-52 and Irondale 72-17. The loss was against Proctor 66-32.

Hermantown is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Lake Superior Conference.

“I’m very proud of the girls for accomplishing our goal of winning the week,” said first-year Hawks head coach Eric Borndal. “After a very tough game against Proctor, I loved our response against Irondale on Saturday. We had fifteen different players score in the game, led by junior point guard Bailey Hermanson who had 23 points.”

Borndal credits seniors Hope Kohanski, Mikayala Sweeney, Annika Nelson, Isabella Wojtysiak and Olivia Johnson for their leadership early in the season.

“It seems like different seniors step up in each of our games,” he said. “Our greatest strength is that we have depth. As we continue to gain confidence as a collective group, I look forward to seeing our competitive spirit lead to more opportunities for wins. We will focus one game at a time, and look to learn from our early season challenges and build on our successes.”

Hermantown also has Lake Superior Conference games coming up against Grand Rapids, Cloquet and Duluth Denfeld before competing in a Esko holiday tournament on Dec. 26-27.

Interestingly, the Hawks will play eight consecutive road games in January, followed by five straight home games in early February.
