Hermantown Football

Five players from Section 7AAA football runner-up Hermantown today were named 2023 All-District Northeast Red first-team.

Selected were seniors LB/TE Connor Fure, WR/CB Peyton Menzel, LB/HB Zach Thorsten, and juniors QB/DB Alex Schott and DT/OL Mason Humphreys.

Hawks named honorable mention include seniors LB/G Ryder Wrazidlo, WB/FS Brody Summers and LB/FB Dakota Rowan.

Northeast Red champion North Branch placed six players on the first-team, including three juniors, and three were selected honorable mention.

Hermantown lost to North Branch 28-21 in the Section 7AAA championship last Friday and finished 7-4 overall.

Former Hawks standout Zam Plante leads all Fargo Force scorers with 18 points, including a team-high nine goals, in 12 games played. The Bulldogs recruit has scored five goals in his team's last five games and is plus-5.

Meanwhile, his younger brother, Max, is also off to a strong start with the U.S. Under-18 National Development Team with three goals and 14 points in 10 games played.

Both Plantes are expected to join the Bulldogs next season.

Former Hawks Neal Pionk and Dylan Samberg are top-six defensemen for the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. Pionk has four assists and Samberg two through 11 games.
