Claire Kaups had nine kills and Caitlyn Salgy added six kills and 11 digs to lead the Hermantown Volleyball Team to a 3-0 (25-5, 25-10, 25-15) sweep of visiting Duluth Denfeld in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Section 7AAA quarterfinals Wednesday night at the Hermantown High School gym.
Gabi Arntson posted six kills for Hermantown in the lopsided victory, while Abbey McCubbin paced the Hawks' defense with 13 digs. Salgy and Kaups also added three service aces apiece.
The No. 2-seeded Hawks will host No. 3-seeded Grand Rapids in the Section 7AAA semifinals at Hermantown Gym Monday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. The Thunderhawks have won the Section 7AAA title in both 2022 and 2021.
In their meeting earlier this season, Hermantown was narrowly edged by Grand Rapids on the road, 3-2 (16-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 10-15) on Oct. 3.
