The Hermantown Proctor Girls Swimming and Diving Team claimed first-place honors at the Superior Spartan Relays Saturday at Superior High School. The squad finished in the top-three in seven of the nine swimming events, which included a first-place finish from the 900 Crescendo Relay team made up of Kayla Chapin, Eve Barilla-Deuschle, Norah Gunderson and Ava Niksich.
"When doing the line-up for this meet, our goal was to place in the top three in each of the relays, as we knew we had to make up points from not having a diving team," said head coach Jon Nelson. "The team almost accomplished that goal with finishing in the top-three in seven of nine swimming events."
It was the first win in team history for Hermantown Proctor at the eight-team event.
The Hawks/Rails placed second in the 200 medley relay, 600 free relay, 100 breaststroke relay and 400 free relay, and notched third-place finishes in the 300 IM relay and 200 free relay.
"The first year varsity swimmers of Aedea Winter, Raya Trigas, Sam Herron and Emma Berg, really stepped it up in this meet to prove that they do belong on the varsity by swimming hard and helping their relay teams place high and bring home some hardware," said Nelson.
Hermantown Proctor is back in action Tuesday at Cloquet beginning at 5:30 p.m.
