Hermantown’s varsity softball team is scheduled to play five games in six days this week to wrap up regular-season play, beginning with today’s 4:30 p.m. Senior Night home game against Grand Rapids.

The Hawks, currently 9-4 overall and 5-2 in the Lake Superior Conference, will also visit Hibbing on Tuesday, play host to Duluth East Wednesday, travel to Chisago Lakes Friday and face Chippewa Falls Saturday in Superior.

Grand Rapids is 6-6, Hibbing 7-4, Duluth East 3-10, Chisago Lakes 12-4 and Chippewa Falls 11-1, including a 9-0 mark in the Big Rivers Conference.

“We’re looking forward to another busy week of softball,” Hermantown coach Michelle Sweeney said Monday morning. “We have three big Section 7AAA games this week versus Grand Rapids, Hibbing and Chisago Lakes, which are important games for the final section seedings. We are hoping to be in the top four in our section at the end of this week, so we have a home playoff game next Wednesday.”

The Hawks continue to receive strong pitching from Natalie Vitek and Lindsey Ewer and the team defense has been solid, Sweeney said.

“Our bats were a bit quiet in our game against Cloquet, but we have had production throughout our batting line up and great run production since,” she added.

Hermantown is also led by senior third baseman Jadyn Lind, junior outfielder Bailee Edwards and sophomore catcher Mikayla Sweeney.

The Hawks lost to Chisago Lakes 4-3 in the section championship a year ago.
