TUESDAY

Alpine Ski – Boys and girls state meet, Giants Ridge, TBA

Boys Hockey – host Grand Rapids, 7 p.m. (Hawks’ final regular season game). The Class 1A/No. 2-ranked Hawks (21-2-1, 5-0-0 LSC) can win the Lake Superior Conference championship with a win or tie against the Thunderhawks (12-11-1, 6-0-0). Hermantown defeated Chaska 3-1 last Saturday at historic Hermantown Arena, as senior forward Kade Kohanski extended his goals-scoring streak to three games with a second period goal.

Girls Basketball – host Hibbing, 7:15 p.m. The Hawks (6-16) have won four of their last six games heading into their final four regular season games: home vs. Hibbing, Esko and Duluth East, and at Denfeld. The Hawks seniors are Liv BirkelandLauryn BiondiKellyn BiondiEmma Herstad, Amari Nunez and Jayden Lind.  

Boys Basketball – at Grand Rapids, 7:15 p.m. The Hawks (15-6) are led by senior guard Blake Schmitz and junior power forward Abe Soumis. High-flying burly forwards Andrew Schmitz and Broc Sundland have been difficult to defense in recent games, especially in the halfcourt game. Hermantown has lost two straight – against nonconference powers Orono 76-60 and Benilde-St. Margaret’s 78-72 last Saturday in Hermantown. The Hawks have five regular season games remaining, including home games against Superior and Duluth East.  

 

WEDNESDAY

Girls Hockey – Proctor-Hermantown faces Duluth Marshall in the Section 7A championship in Cloquet, 7 p.m. The defending 7A champion Mirage (18-6-2) defeated Cloquet-Esko-Carton 4-0 Saturday in a 7A semifinal in the Wood City, on the strength of a two-goal performance by junior forward Izy Fairchild and a 10-save shutout effort by junior Heelah McLeod. Proctor-Hermantown defeated the Hilltoppers 4-3 on Jan. 24 at Hermantown Arena, thanks to Nya Seiger’s winning goal late in the third period. The Hawks are also led by team scoring leader Hannah Graves (34 points, 13 goals), an elite junior forward, and senior forward Reese Heitzman (17 goals). P-H is ranked third in Minnesota 1A, behind Warroad (20-3-1) and Academy of Holy Angels (19-3-1)
