A slow start hindered the Hermantown Football Team in its MSHSL Football Class AAAA Quarterfinal game against Orono Thursday night, as the Hawks' fell to the Spartans, 49-21, at Alexandria High School despite scoring 21 second-half points.

Sophomore Martin Sleen finished the game with 199 yards and two touchdowns for the Hawks, while senior Aidan Adamski added 146 rushing yards and one touchdown. For the second time in the last two games, Hermantown recovered two onside kicks from Bode Madill, one leading to Adamski's touchdown in the third quarter to cut Orono's lead to 21 points and the other coming late in the fourth quarter following Sleen's second touchdown of the night.

Hermantown finished the season with a 9-2 record and its first trip to the state tournament since 2018 and its eighth in program history.

“These kids are going to battle until the end. There’s no quit in them, that’s the part that I’m proud of. We were a little bit outgunned today as far as athletes go, but I don’t question our kids' want or desire.”
